Case Study
Canadian Border Crossing - Temporary Building
Project at a Glance
Client: Public Works and Government Services Canada
End-User: Canada Border Service Agency
Task: Design and build a temporary building
Time-line: Five weeks
Challenge:
Public Works and Government Services required a temporary facility for the Port of Cascade Border Crossing at Christina Lake, BC – and they needed it fast. The Request for Quotation not only asked for project cost, but also hinged on the ability to meet a five-week time schedule, start-to-finish.
When the Request for Quotation crossed the desks at Northern Trailer, there was no hesitation. “This is the type of project our staff thrives on,” says Mark Brown, CEO, Northern Trailer. “It allows us to showcase our strength as a multi-functional team that can meet the challenges of demanding jobs.”
And they did just that. Once the contract was awarded, the Northern Trailer team got to work and despite numerous changes to the initial specs throughout the job, they remained committed to the five-week deadline.
Solution:
Northern Trailer designed a unique building for Canada Border Service Agency, that houses border crossing personnel and includes custom features such as a secure holding cell and a temperature controlled room specifically required for the large amount of electrical and communications equipment needed at a border crossing.
In less than 45 days, the Northern Trailer Team secured permits, prepared the site (including the relocation of power poles and installation of yard lighting), conducted the civil and custom construction and millwork – and installed site services and landscaping.
The new building is a big improvement over the old facility, and the completion of this project shows that Northern Trailer knows how to make things happen. From the fencing, to the electrical work, to the stairway and ramp up to the trailer – everything was well done.
The Superintendent of the Canadian Border Service for the Port of Cascade reports that Northern Trailer did an excellent job. “I am VERY impressed with the quality of work and in the trailer that has been provided for us for the next year,” said K.B. Gresley-Jones.
