"In anticipation of increased worldwide needs for Potash over the next several years – the corporation has embarked on a large scale expansion project at its Rocanville, SK, location. The clients need for safety to be foremost was evident from the beginning and our record could speak to that need," says Paul Desaulniers, Senior Sales, Northern Trailer. Other elements of the project include extensive design work to accommodate living quarters for up to 1,000 workers and management personnel, development of a kitchen/dining area and recreational space. In addition, the layout incorporates a series of enclosed and heated arctic corridors for pedestrian traffic between the work site and accommodations. The project is planned in stages to facilitate infrastructure such as water and power and must remain on schedule to ensure seamless transition for an “up-and-running” camp. Solution An exemplary safety record, proven onsite procedures, quality products and timely installation methods were major factors in Northern Trailer becoming the successful bidder for this extensive project. Weekly conference calls occur between the client and the Northern Trailer Health and Safety manager to ensure the project runs smoothly. Northern Trailer recruited its catering division to contribute design and engineering ideas and expertise to the heart of the infrastructure – an expansive 30,000-square-foot custom kitchen and dining area with accompanying recreational space for workers to watch television, play pool and other games as well as use the full service fitness facility. “The catering division worked with us to design a space that made sense for functionality in a space that would hold a lot of people,” says Desaulniers. Accommodations include 10 separate 42-person dormitories with individual rooms dedicated to trades workers as well as two, 24-person dormitories for management personnel, which house large bedrooms and private washrooms. In addition to living space, Northern Trailer has also supplied a number of support buildings to accommodate for successful site operations.
